Are you proud to share your website?
Is your website something you are proud to share?
Many small business owners I talk to hate their website. As a result, they don’t share it or tell anyone about it.
Today, we are going to talk about how to make your website something you love.
Let’s get started!
Common reasons most people don’t like their website
There are a handful of reasons you might not like your website, but the two most common I see are:
- It doesn’t visually represent their business
- The language feels boring and doesn’t speak to the business
We are going to talk about two quick fixes for these, but I do want to present a caveat. Your website might need a complete overhaul. Quick fixes can work, but if they don’t, you need to consider doing it right.
Your website is too important to have something that doesn’t work.
Give it a fresh coat of paint
Open your web browser and go to your website. What do feel?
- Frustration?
- Insecurity?
- Imposter?
Most small businesses don’t love how their website looks. Put the words to the side for a moment and take in how you feel about it, visually.
Many times your website feels outdated and that makes you feel like your business is outdated. Not able to keep up with your competition.
A solution here is to give it a fresh coat of paint. Have a designer take a look and see what kind of improvements you could make.
There might be small updates like:
- Moving text around
- Changing the imagery
- Updating with different fonts
That make a huge difference!
This alone will make you want to share the website more.
Redo the messaging
A more conversion centered approach is to focus on the messaging.
While the design is great, words do the selling. And part of your frustration with your website might be because it isn’t bringing in leads for your business.
Does your website clearly state?
- Who you help
- How you help them
- Why they should choose you
- What steps should they take next
Without some of these fundamental pieces, you won’t be able to convert any leads.
I highly recommend checking out the StoryBrand framework for this. Incorporating a narrative approach to your website copy can make a world of a difference.
Note: I recently became a StoryBrand Certified Guide. If you feel your messaging needs work, reply to this email and I would love to help.
I hope these tips help you love your website and have it be something you are proud to share!
See you next week.
