Why you need social proof on your website
When was the last time you shopped on Amazon and didn’t read the reviews?
If you’re anything like me—it was never.
One of the first things I do when landing on an Amazon product is check out the reviews.
Why?
Because reviews are a powerful form of social proof.
Anyone can write an Amazon description (especially if you are a copywriter).
But Amazon reviews. Thousands of Amazon reviews say a lot about a product!
This is why Amazon prioritizes them so much.
They know how much they can influence a product.
So now ask yourself…why don’t you prioritize testimonials on your website?
Neglect the power of testimonials at your own will
Your website is no different than an Amazon page.
If you don’t have testimonials you need to start collecting them.
Go back through your most recent customers and ask if they could write a few things about their experience working with you.
If you are having a hard time getting a response, here are a few tips.
- Provide a list of questions they can answer
- Give a link to a form they fill out
- Ask if you can write one for them and get their approval
Getting testimonials can be hard, but you need to ask.
The more testimonials you collect, the better.
How to display them on your website
The next step once you have testimonials is displaying them on your website.
There are a few dos and don’ts to make sure you utilize them effectively.
Don’t:
- List them as one long big paragraph
- Share only 1 or 2 testimonials
- Have them on random pages
Do:
- Focus on only including parts of the testimonial that highlight your differentiator as a business
- Use bold font or a different color to make certain sections stand out
- Include them on your homepage
- List 3-4 testimonials at a minimum
- Include video testimonials if you have them
These will help your testimonials stand out and attract more of your ideal customer.
Remember, people skim websites so it’s important that your visitor can grasp the most important pieces at a glance.
That’s it!
As always, thanks for reading.
